Grand Fishing Club Meeting Minutes April 2, 2024
Cimaron Building – Agua Fria Room
1:00 Calvin welcomed members and guests. He also welcomed Bill
Morris.
Calvin introduced our guest speaker, Karen Gremmimger with
Casting for Recovery AZ. She discussed the retreats and purposes
of the program. At the end of her presentation, Calvin presented
Karen with a donation from the club.
2:00 Break
2:10 Calvin called the meeting to order.
Our next meeting will be October 15.
A reminder— the Holiday Party is December 12 and will be held
in the ballroom at Grand.
Amy introduced two guests and mentioned there were no new
members.
It was moved and seconded to accept the minutes of the
March meeting.
Al gave the treasurer’s report. The $500 deposit was
refunded from Briarwood Country Club and deposited in the
Club’s account. March’s beginning balance was $13,662.44 and
the ending balance for the month is $14,333.00. It was
moved and seconded to accept the treasurer’s report.
April is a busy month for club activities. Lake 9 was stocked
the morning of April 2. Kevin has the schedule for feeding.
April 4 the club is participating in the Grand Open House.
April 6 is the Project Healing Waters event. The movie
Mending the Line was recommended by Calvin and Amy.
April 10 is the club spring picnic. Bill Morris has once again
made a generous contribution towards the picnic expenses. A
silent auction will be held so bring your checkbooks or cash.
Heads and tails will be played.
April 13 is the BSA merit badge event.
Volunteers are needed for Casting for Recovery retreats.
Contact Calvin if you are interested in volunteering for one of
3 TU/BSA Fish Camps.
John and others gave reports on recent fishing trips:
Lower St. Mary was just ok. Upper St. Mary is looking good for
pike.
Pyramid Lake fishing was disappointing. 10 members
made the trip and very few fish were caught.
Bartlett Lake wasn’t good for crappies but the bass are
are looking good.
Salt River is still being stocked. The water is at 75cf
presently.
Oak Creek near Sedona is being stocked.
The upcoming May 9-12 trip to San Juan still has one
opening.
The God’s Lake trip June 24-28 has 10 members
participating. The trip is full with the possibility of 2 more
going.
The Missoula trip is filled.
Members have a variety of fishing trips planned for the
coming months. Destinations include Colorado, Wyoming,
Montana, Michigan, Washington, Yellowstone, Canada, Cuba,
and Belize.
Call Security if you observe unauthorized fishermen.
If you need to use a handicap golf cart on the walking path
along Lake 9 you will need a handicap placard obtained from
Desert Springs golf office.
